The type of assessment that is done depends on the information that is needed to understand underlying difficulties and determine appropriate accommodations, supports and intervention.

A psycho-educational (or psych-ed) is often sufficient to determine if someone has a learning disorder and meets criteria for support or to identify learning strengths and develop strategies to maximize potential.

A neuropsychological assessment includes additional measures to understand strengths and/or needs in areas that would benefit from further evaluation to fully understand presenting concerns.

Specific concerns about you or your child and the purpose of the assessment will be discussed during an initial meeting. The information you provide and the presenting concerns you have help to determine the type of assessment that would be beneficial and what tests will be used to answer the questions you have. Assessment is a collaborative process with each of us bringing different pieces of the problem to be solved to the table. We work together to put the pieces together in a way that makes sense to understand the reason for doing the assessment.

A comprehensive assessment report with recommendations supporting strengths and needs is provided following a feedback session with you to discuss testing results.

Play Based Therapy

Dr. Rae-Seebach is specialized in expressive play and sand tray therapy integrated with evidence-based cognitive and behavioural strategies in the treatment of grief, loss, anxiety, mood, trauma, and concerns about death and dying..

Many children and youth lack the words and/or the ability to talk about problems they experience. With support and guidance, expressive play and sand tray therapy provides opportunities to explore and resolve underlying issues associated with behavioural, social and emotional struggles. Parent consultation and strategies to sustain changes achieved through treatment are integrated into this process.

  • Does your child struggle with finishing assignments at school?
  • Does your child have a hard time planning and organizing at school and at home?
  • Does your child have difficulty staying on top of schedules and obligations?

These are executive function skills that your child can be taught with support and practice. I work with children and families one-on-one to get to the heart of the difficulties, and to develop a personalized plan to make learning executive function skills fun and rewarding.

I am a BC certified teacher with Richmond School District 38. I obtained my B.Ed. at UBC in 2000 and my M.S. at the State University of New York in 2014. In more than 25 years of teaching, I have taught in Canada, mainland China, Hong Kong, the United States, and the Middle East. I am passionate about teaching, and I am attuned to different styles of learning as well as individual student needs. I am committed to the success of all my students.

As a classroom teacher, I have taught children of all ages from kindergarten to high school. I am curious about how children struggle with executive function skills in my classroom and about what I can do to support them. To this end, I make executive function skills a daily focus of my teaching to ensure my students are happy and successful learners.

In collaboration with you, I look forward to working with your child one-on-one to create our personalized plan for building executive function skills. We can also consult with teachers to assess progress and strengthen the plan over time. Together, we work with you to enhance your child’s independence, confidence, and success at school and at home.
